You’ve checked your phone 47 times today.

You’ve checked your phone 47 times today.

You remember maybe three of them.

That’s not a habit.
That’s a leak.

And it’s draining something you can’t refill.

Look at that list again:
Wake up → screen
Work → screen
Relax → screen
Wind down → screen

Sleep.
Repeat.

We’ve built the most “connected” generation in human history.

And we’ve never been more absent
from our own lives.

In 2009, I was overweight, burning out, and missing my daughter’s childhood, while sitting in the same house as her.

Physically present.
Mentally somewhere else entirely.

The screens weren’t the cause.
They were the symptom.

The real problem was that:
– I had no intentional structure for my time.
– no boundaries between work and recovery.
– no clarity on what I actually valued.

So I filled every gap with a screen.

Here’s what that cost me and what it might be costing you:

– the morning that could’ve been spent moving your body.
– the dinner where your kids actually wanted to talk.
– the creative thinking that only comes from boredom.
– the sleep that would’ve made everything sharper the next day.

There’s a difference between relaxing and numbing.

One restores you.
The other just keeps you stimulated while draining everything that matters.

– your attention
– your health
– your relationships
– your freedom

I’m not going to tell you to throw your phone in the ocean.
(I tried. Andorra is landlocked. Logistics were complicated) 😆

But this is where I’d start:
✅ No phone for the first 30 minutes after waking up
✅ No screens at the dinner table. Full stop.
✅ One hour before bed, device-free. Non-negotiable.

Small? Yes.

Harder than it sounds?
For most people, including me at first, yes.

Total Wealth isn’t just about money.

It’s time freedom.
Health freedom.
Location freedom.
Presence.

None of it is possible while outsourcing your attention to a 6.7-inch rectangle dozens of times a day without even realising it.

The most dangerous prison isn’t made of iron bars.
It’s made of notifications.

When was the last time you were fully somewhere?
