We had a rule in Special Forces.
If it’s not mission-essential, it doesn’t come.
No exceptions.
Because we knew we’d be carrying it every day for weeks on end. And we knew there was a hard limit to what we could actually carry.
So we only packed mission-essential material.
– Sometimes a sniper rifle
– Sometimes a demolition kit
– A medic kit
– Water
– Food
– Radio
Just the basics to successfully complete the mission.
Nothing more.
Entrepreneurs and CEOs are no different.
There is only so much mental capacity you have.
Only so many things you can actually do well at the same time.
And yet it surprises me how many high achievers keep loading on ‘musts’ and ‘shoulds’ as if none of these limitations apply to them.
They try to carry everything.
And as a result, they succumb to the weight.
So here’s what I want you to do today.
Make an inventory.
Look at your backpack.
Look at all the ‘shoulds’ and ‘musts’ you’ve loaded in there, and the importance you’ve attached to each one.
Where can you release that importance?
What can you throw out?
How much lighter will you feel when you do?
Because the goal was never to carry more.
It was always to move faster toward what actually matters.
Remember:
Your backpack has a weight limit.
What’s in yours that didn’t earn its place?
