Today, my 18-year-old daughter made me delete the LinkedIn app from my phone. Made me go cold turkey.
Leyla Coenen did deep research (watched a YouTube video 😄 ) on ´how dopamine works´.

The cycle is something like this (simplified version):
– Scroll social media
– Get a quick and cheap dopamine hit
– You don’t do difficult stuff because you already had your ‘dopamine rush’
– Scroll social media
– etc

So, after watching this, she removed the TikTok app from her phone.
She wants to focus on building her business.

I’m totally supportive of that. Super proud. 🥇

But, then I thought: “Wait… a…. freaking….. minute.” 🤔

I wanted to get all kinds of important work done here in Bali.

But I mainly posted on LinkedIn and checked ‘my stats’ like a junkie.

Not good.

So I removed my last social media app: LinkedIn.

And let me tell you: It feels so good! Soooo good.

Sure, I could have made up a list of reasons to keep the app.

But who am I fooling anyway?
I know social media is addictive.
Why not help myself control my ‘habit’?

How do you guard yourself against social media and ´easy´ dopamine?

– PS. About the picture: Sunrise on Mount Batur, Bali with Leyla last Tuesday.
How come I can spend 5 weeks in Bali and hike with my daughter on a regular Tuesday?

1 Decision made in 2009:
– The business will support my lifestyle, not the other way around.
Result: Over 13 years of travel with my family. Zero Time Stress.
Making memories for life.
