My sleeping bag is nice and warm.
Outside, the desert is freezing cold.
Pitch-black. No moon tonight. No light pollution.
Nothing but a gazillion stars and vague contours of our vehicles.
I sleep with my clothes and boots on. Always Ready for Action.
All my gear is cold.
I put it on by touch and feel the cold penetrating my clothes. I shiver.
My assault rifle is freezing.
I silently move to the Observation Post where my watch buddy waits.
8-man Special Forces team. Always at least 2 on watch.
Day and night. No exceptions.
Why 2?
Because even elite operators need:
• Someone to challenge their perspective
• A second set of eyes to spot what they might miss
• Someone to keep them sharp when fatigue sets in
• Backup when things get rough
20 years later, running successful businesses and coaching high performers, I see the same principle at work.
The most successful leaders I know all have someone watching their six:
• A coach to challenge their blind spots
• A mentor to expand their vision
• An accountability partner to keep them focused
You might be crushing it in business, but are you:
• Sacrificing health for wealth?
• Missing life’s best moments for meetings?
• Trading family time for “just one more deal”?
Even Special Forces operators don’t go it alone.
Why should you?
Who’s on watch with you for 2025?
