My wife wanted to kill off our lucrative ´side hustle´…

My wife wanted to kill off our lucrative ´side hustle´.
My wife, Manon, is a bit mad at me—and, yeah, I can see why. Here’s what happened…

Back in 2008, after years of building our business together, we both decided it was time for her to step back.

Manon had done an incredible job growing our company at that time, and with our little girl now in our lives, we wanted to be more present as parents.

Some of her friends and family had a hard time with this choice; after all, she had multiple degrees under her belt.

But we were living in Spain, far from most of our social circle, and we decided to let go of society’s “shoulds” and just do what felt right for us.

Since then, Manon dove into things she loved—cooking, photography, fitness, family travel, and her ultimate passion, downhill mountain biking.

Life was good.

But by 2021, she started feeling a pull to get back into business. She wanted something that would check a few boxes:

1. She could do it from anywhere.

2. It was flexible.

3. It involved helping people live healthier, happier lives.

So we found a small health-food webshop and bought it as a fun, low-key side project. Just a little something to work on together. Our little ´Side Hustle´

But, well…I kinda messed that part up. Big time.

We added some “marketing magic.” A sprinkle here, a tweak there, and suddenly we’d grown the company by 1800% in just three years.

And now? This side hustle had turned into a full-blown business, complete with increased demands and responsibilities.

All of a sudden, our easygoing project was eating up a lot of time.

“Wait…what about my mountain biking?” she said.

Yes….right…..

So here we were, happy with the success but feeling like we’d lost control over our time—a line we never wanted to cross.

Our goal has always been for our businesses to serve our lifestyle, not the other way around.

So we cut back on what wasn’t essential, and got serious about automating and delegating.

I’m glad to say we’re back on track.

We’ve reclaimed our time freedom and can focus on what really matters.

And to my very patient wife, if you’re reading this:

I’m sorry, honey. I’ll try not to do it again…probably. 😉
