Last night my WhatsApp exploded and I got 4 calls.
Hardly any sleep, but this was important.
It was my wife, Manon.

Her D-Day had arrived: Competition day. The Big One.
The World Championships in Australia

Ever heard of downhill mountain biking?

Picture this: You start at the top of a mountain and ride down on ridiculously steep, technical tracks.
Add in massive jumps, sheer drops, gnarly roots, jagged rocks, and other insane obstacles.

And my wife? She races this sport.

Not just races – she’s won the Masters World title 4 times before.

Today, she was gunning for another.

On competition day, you do several runs.
And when your husband (that’s me) is your mental coach, you keep him updated.

Hence the calls. I cherished every second of it.
All hype. All cheers. All good vibes.

It’s incredible how she keeps getting better each year, while most people plateau or decline.

How?
We prioritized our lifestyle:
• Healthy living: Quality nutrition and consistent training
• Time Freedom: to pursue our passions
• Location Freedom: to train and compete anywhere

Watching this, I thought about those typical winner interviews:
“I’d like to thank my sponsors, my family, my coach, blabla…”

NO.

No need for humility here.

She did this. All of it.

• Expanding her comfort zone
• Crashing and getting back up
• Those dawn training sessions
• The relentless workouts
• Mastering the mental game

All of it.

Well done, honey. Proud of you. ❤️

P.S. She won again. The Dutch national anthem (Wilhelmus) echoed once more in Cairns, Australia. 🏆
Her name is Manon Hooijschuur, she´s not on Linkedin, but you can check her out here if you want: https://lnkd.in/ev8F9sni
