“20 years from now, the only people who will remember that you worked late are your kids.”
Ouch. That stings because it’s true.
My ego loves to whisper how crucial I am to my businesses.
Reality tells a different story.
Through 15 years of extended family travel, I’ve watched my companies not just survive, but thrive without my constant presence.
Others can do most of what I do. Sometimes even better.
But at home?
Different story…
My wife needs her partner, her rock, her support.
My daughter needs her father’s steady presence, his example, his unwavering support.
Would they survive without me? Yes.
Would they thrive? No.
The spreadsheets will always be there.
The meetings will never end.
The deals will keep coming.
Just remember:
Emails will keep coming into your mailbox….even when you are dead.
But my daughter’s teenage years?
My wife’s dreams and fears?
Those moments are now. They’re finite. They’re precious.
So I often ask myself: Where is my real responsibility?
The answer is always the same – at home.
Where will yours be in 2025?
