Just last week, a financially successful guy asked me, “Robin, how do you find the time to do all this stuff?”
By “all this stuff,” he meant my adventures, extended travel, daily habits like meditation, fitness, and long walks in nature. And honestly? It’s a question I hear all the time.
We’re all so “busy.” You probably hear it too:
“How’s it going?”
“Oh, you know, busy.”
But the real question is—how do you actually find time to do what you love?
Here’s the hard truth: It’s simple, but simple doesn’t mean easy.
Wake Up—Your Days Are Numbered
First, let’s get real, my friends: our days are limited.
I’m 50 now. The average person in Western Europe lives to 82. That means I’ve got about 32 years left, but let’s not kid ourselves—there’s no guarantee.
I´ll probably live till 110, but that is besides the point.
Life can end any time, for any of us.
No fun to think about this all the time, but good to remind yourself now and again.
What’s for sure is that time is running out for all of us.
And there are hardly any 70 year olds still ´climbing K2´.
So if you fancy that kind of stuff…..you better hurry.
Do the Math: How Much Time Do You Really Have?
Let’s break it down.
Each year gives you 8,760 hours.
– You work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, with 4 weeks of vacation. That’s 1,920 hours.
– You sleep 7 hours a night, adding up to 2,555 hours.
– You eat—3 meals a day, 30 minutes each—that’s 547 hours.
– And let’s face it, you’re spending 2 hours a day on social media, which adds another 730 hours.
That leaves you with 4,008 hours after accounting for just some ´basics´—no time for family, friends, showering, commuting, errands, hobbies, or even relaxing in front of the TV (the average person watches 3 hours a day, by the way—that’s over 1,000 hours gone).
You don’t have as much time as you think.
You’ve Got 3 Choices (Real Pros do all 3):
1. Be super-intentional about how you spend your remaining hours.
2. Boost your productivity so you can get more done in less time.
3. Eliminate the unnecessary.
What Does This Look Like in Real Life?
1. Plan Ahead Like Your Life Depends on It—Because It Does
If you want to take that dream trip or start that new project, put it on your calendar and defend it like your life depends on it. Because it does.
Time is your most valuable asset—treat it like gold.
2. Ruthlessly Cut Distractions
When I worked in the office, people would constantly come to my desk with questions. My response? “Send me an email.” The first few times, they’d push back: “It’ll just take a second!”
“No, send me an email, please.”
Guess what? Most emails never came.
When they did, my reply was, “How would you solve this?” followed by a quick approval.
Now? I run several companies, and my inbox stays almost empty. I don’t take recurring calls. I’m never distracted.
If you work for someone else, it might be tougher, but I guarantee you can cut the distractions in your day too.
3. Eliminate the BS
Look, I know this is difficult.
But…..you know what I’m talking about.
The social media scroll, the endless TV binge, the unproductive habits.
It’s time to cut it.
I’ve been there.
I’d install social media apps, get sucked in, feel anxious, then delete them—over and over again.
Even tools like Opal or moving apps to a second screen only helped so much. In the end, it wasn’t about the apps.
It was about breaking the addiction.
If something you’re doing isn’t moving you toward the life you want, eliminate it.
No excuses. You don’t have time to waste.
You Don’t Have Much Time—So Live Your Epic Life Now
If you want to live an extraordinary life, you have to make intentional decisions and guard your time.
Because time, my friend, is the one thing you’ll never get back.
Are you spending it on what really matters?
