It’s summer 2025, and I’m kinda bored. 😃
Strange thing to say for someone who owns a travel company.
During peak season,
On our busiest day of the year.
Yesterday, while hundreds of villas changed guests:
• I was having lunch
• My business partner was grocery shopping and preparing a bbq
• Our phones stayed silent
• Our inboxes remained empty
We laughed about it on our morning call.
This isn’t luck. This is design.
A deliberate choice made in 2009:
The business would serve our lifestyle.
Not consume it.
Right now:
• My daughter’s teaching sailing in Netherlands
• My wife’s crushing mountain bike trails
• I’m nursing a busted ankle
• Our friends are on “traditional” vacations
And me? I’m embracing the ebb.
Because here’s what 10+ years of living in my own rhythm taught me:
Flow always follows ebb.
We don’t do summer vacations.
Why would we?
• It’s the busiest travel season
• Everything’s overpriced
• Destinations are crowded
Instead:
• Kilimanjaro with my daughter in September
• Maybe Bali and Thailand in October
• Who knows what after that? We have a long list still.
That’s the beauty of designing your life:
You choose your seasons.
1 Decision.
My current daily rhythm:
• Early rise
• Meditation
• Modified workout (thanks, ankle)
• Project work that excites me
• Time for reflection
Just the normal stuff.
Is it glamorous? Not always.
Is it Instagram-worthy? Rarely, to be honest.
Is it true to our priorities? Absolutely.
For me, success isn’t about constant excitement and endless activity.
It’s about:
• Freedom to choose
• Space to breathe
• Time to be bored and room to grow
The real luxury isn’t in fancy vacations, busy schedules or constant movement.
It’s in:
• Choosing your pace
• Setting your rhythm
• Living your priorities and owning your time
Even the boring parts. Especially the boring parts.
Because, a bit of boredom in summer 2025 while my company handles its busiest day?
That’s not a bug. That’s a feature.
Want to know how we built this?
How we created a life true to our priorities?
How we designed our businesses that serve life, not consume it?
Drop me a line.
Because maybe your version of success doesn’t look like everyone else’s either.
And that’s exactly how it should be.
Enjoy your summer!
PS. About the picture: Well, I´m glad that someone is having fun. 🤩
Last week my wife, Manon, became European Masters Downhill Mountainbike Champion. It was ´The Wilhelmus´ through the speakers all over again. 😃
Even though she is already the reigning Masters World Champion, it was still quite a challenge. Well done, honey!
