At 51, I´m a Spring Chicken. 😃 This I learned spending 9 days in Iceland with Golden Oldies:
Iceland last week: A vacation with my dad.
It was a guided group trip. I loved it: just hitting the best sites one after another, with time for deep conversations with my dad.
There were other people – 18 of them, all between 65 and 75 years old.
And me: Spring chicken at 51. 😃
Fascinating observations about these Golden Girls and Guys:
– Hardly touched their phones: No calls, no social media, no selfies
– Itineraries printed out and activities underlined with a ´good old´ pen
– Following our route on physical maps 😆
But even more striking were the conversations:
– Stories of their most memorable vacations
– Plans for the future with friends and (grand)kids
– Focus on health (many had health issues and knew others who were ill)
The funny thing?
Nobody talked about their work, except for one comment:
“I worked over 50 hours per week for 15 years. I liked my work. Retired two years ago at 68. Haven’t missed it for a single day. Strange how that works…”
Money wasn’t mentioned once.
My presence with my dad inspired some:
“It’s amazing you can make time for that,” they said.
It’s just one of the advantages of that decision I made in 2009:
My business will support my lifestyle, not the other way around.
Prioritizing:
– Time and Location Freedom
– Health Freedom (physical and mental)
– Social Freedom (time with people who matter)
– Financial Freedom
Maybe we can learn something about real priorities from these ´oldtimers´…
