8 Life lessons from 90+ year olds: Notice what is missing.
This weekend I was reading Sahil Bloom ´s book ´The 5 Types of Wealth´.
In a chapter, he shares interviews with 90-plus-year-olds and comes to a startling conclusion.
If you read life advice from older people in interviews, you´ll encounter this:
• “I wasted my 40s worrying about things that never happened” – Ruthie, 93
(The worry was always worse than reality. Always.)
• “Don’t waste time on grudges. Those 20 years not speaking to my sister? I can’t even remember why” – Dorothy, 94
(Life’s too short for petty fights, yet here we are, holding onto them)
• “Keep moving. The moment you start sitting all day is the moment you start dying” – Helen, 98
(She still walks 20 mins daily. What’s your excuse?)
• “Learn to be alone without being lonely” – Matilda, 101
(The most powerful skill nobody teaches you)
• “Find something to laugh about every day, even in the darkest times” – Irving, 93
(This man survived the Holocaust. He knows a thing or two about resilience)
• “Touch people. Hold hands. Hug your friends” – Martha, 92
(Put down your phone and connect for real)
• “Choose your life partner carefully. Marriage can be your greatest joy or deepest misery” – Rose, 99
(No explanation needed)
• “Don’t retire if you love what you do” – Bernard, 97
(Purpose > Pension)
While we’re all chasing bigger paychecks and better job titles, not one of these wise souls mentioned regretting not making more money.
Let that sink in for a moment.
