So there we were, visiting our daughter, Leyla – she’s 17 and she´s halfway doing this 12-week ski instructor course.
But here’s the weird part: We weren’t showing her around.
She was showing US around.
She’s got her own friends we’ve never met, favorite spots we didn’t know about, this whole life we’re just… visitors in.
And then it hit me: This is it.
This is that moment these graphs talk about.
You know how they show all these different lines about how we spend our time throughout life?
There’s this one about time with your kids that peaks when they’re little and then just… drops. I’m literally watching that line drop in real time.
It got me thinking about how we spend our time, and honestly?
It’s messing with my head a bit.
Let me break it down:
When they’re little, you’re their whole world. Like, literally EVERYTHING
Then suddenly you’re getting tours of THEIR world
And eventually, you’re just a visitor in their life (a loved one, but still a visitor)
But here’s the really wild part – these graphs show how everything shifts:
– Time alone? That goes up (feeling it already)
– Time with friends? Drops after your teens (yep, happening)
– Time with your partner? That’s about to become your main thing
– Work time? Still eating up most of our day during all these changes
Makes you think differently about this whole “Time Freedom” thing we’re always talking about, right?
It’s not just about escaping the 9-to-5. It’s about catching these moments before they’re gone.
Like, when people say “I wish I had more time with my kids when they were young” – I get it now.
You don’t just want more time someday.
You want more time during specific windows that don’t come back.
These windows are closing. Kinda fast 😉
Watching our daughter in Canada made all these graphs and stats feel real.
We’re not just talking about some future “Freedom” anymore.
We’re talking about being present for the moments that are happening right now.
Kind of makes you want to check your calendar for next week and ask
“What window am I in right now, and am I spending it right?”
Crazy how watching your kid show you around their world can teach you more about time than any business book, huh?
