Settling feels safe. Until it steals your life.

Settling feels safe. Until it steals your life.

In 2009 I had the business. The money. The “success” everyone around me could see.

What nobody saw was this:

15 kilos overweight.
Checking my phone at the dinner table.
Putting out fires 24/7.

My daughter was two years old, and I was missing it.

I hadn’t chosen that life.
I had drifted into it.

That’s what settling does.

It arrives one small compromise at a time, one deferred decision at a time, until one day you look up and realize the life around you is one you never actually built.

I call it The Drift.

Nobody writes down ‘I want to be overweight, disconnected from my kids, and running on caffeine and cortisol by 45.’

It just happens.

Because you kept saying yes to the urgent and no to the important.

The day I caught myself was the day I asked one question:

Is this it? Is this what I sacrificed everything for?

The answer forced a decision.

How I make money serves my lifestyle.
Not the other way around.

That one decision changed where I live, how I train, how I show up for my wife and daughter, what I say no to.

Settling feels safe because it is familiar.
But familiar isn’t the same as chosen.

You don’t have to blow your life up.
You just have to stop drifting.
