I turned 52 this week, but it only hit me the moment I went to the sauna with my wife.
Most saunas have an hourglass to make sure you don’t turn into a mummy.
Your life is like an hourglass.
The time you have on this earth is limited.
There is sand at the bottom.
That is the time you have already spent.
All your experiences and memories, the good ones and the bad ones.
For me: 52 years, 18,980 days, 455,520 hours.
Each grain, a moment.
Gone forever.
And then you have sand in the top half of the hourglass.
All the cool things you will do.
But here’s the catch:
We don’t know how much sand is still remaining.
We pretend it’s an infinite amount. It’s not.
Hopefully, it is a lot.
But really, we don’t know.
So if there is anything that you still want to do:
– Make epic memories with your kids
– Enjoy traveling with your spouse
– Get your energy and health back…
Anything.
Do it now.
Because one day, the hourglass will be empty.
And all our “somedays” become “never.”
About the picture: Hiking and sleeping in improvised shelters in the Pyrenees with friends, their kids, and, of course, my daughter Leyla.
