If you had a chat with “Present Me” and “2005 Me,” it would feel like talking to two completely different people.
One was a Special Operations Forces Officer.
The other runs several successful businesses and is a coach.
Here’s why this matters for you…
We all tend to think we’ve reached our “final form” or that who we are now is who we’ll always be.
But that’s a total myth.
As Dr. Daniel Gilbert puts it, “๐๐๐บ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ป๐น๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ธ ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐’๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฑ.”
I learned this twice:
First in Special Forces selection, where no one starts as an Operator – you become one.
Then in business, where your challenges transform you into who you need to be.
That big goal you’re hesitating about?
Improving your health, relationships, finding your purpose….?
It’s not meant for who you are today.
It’s meant for who you’ll become in pursuit of it.
Because you don’t rise to the level of your goals.
You rise to the level of your growth.
Think about who you were 10 years ago.
What were you into? What did you care about? What were your goals?
I bet your life was completely different back then, right?
So why wouldn’t you change just as much in the next 10 years?
Here’s the truth: your current self is just temporary.
You’re always becoming someone new.
In Special Forces, we never waited until we felt ready.
We started, and let the mission transform us.
And start imagining how amazing that future version of you can be.
