Whenever my Commando unit would walk into an off-base mess hall, the room would go ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜. You could feel the weight of the stares and hear the whispersโ€””Itโ€™s the Commandos. What are ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ doing here?”

Even after all that time, the level of respect we got still blew me away.

We represented something different, something uncommon.

In Special Forces, the standards are sky-high, and for good reason.

We were the ones called in when things went sideways, when it really mattered. And the cost of failing? Letโ€™s just say it wasnโ€™t something you could afford.

Of course, we had a reputation to uphold, but that wasnโ€™t the biggest thing.

In SF, your peers hold you to a standard, and you hold yourself to it too.

Everyone around you is living at that top level, and you rise to it.

You know the sayingโ€”youโ€™re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

In the civilian world, thatโ€™s your friends and colleagues.

But hereโ€™s something you might not know: if a close friend of yours is obese, youโ€™re 57% more likely to become obese too.

๐˜๐˜ตโ€™๐˜ด ๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ฅ, ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ฉ๐˜ต?

The people around you can either lift you up or drag you down.

But that influence can also be a massive advantage.

Surround yourself with high-energy, ambitious people, and youโ€™re probably going to crush it in whatever youโ€™re doing.

Your results skyrocket. Thatโ€™s the power of your peer groupโ€”it can drive you to achieve insane success.

However, thereโ€™s a flip side.

What happens when everyone around you is locked into the rat race, and you want something different?

What if youโ€™re ready to shift gears, spend more time with family, focus on your healthโ€”both physical and mental?

Hereโ€™s where it gets tricky.

You might feel like youโ€™re going against the grain.

That fear kicks inโ€”what if they donโ€™t understand? What if they criticize you? What if you end up alone?

That fear can be so powerful that it keeps you stuck.

Youโ€™ll tell yourself that this whole โ€œbalanceโ€ thing isnโ€™t for you, and youโ€™ll just keep grinding, keep building businesses, keep making more moneyโ€”even though deep down, ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ธ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐—ถ๐˜โ€™๐˜€ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ.

So, whatโ€™s the solution?

Be willing to adjust your peer group to fit the phase of life youโ€™re in.

Surround yourself with people who align with your goals, not just your past success.

Itโ€™s about evolving your environment to support the life you want to build now.
